This page explains what happens to the email address you give us. That address is the only thing the site asks you for. A few technical details are recorded with it by the service that receives the form, described below under What we collect.

Who is responsible

Echoes Editions is a brand of Edit S.r.l.s., Via Paradigna 61, 43122 Parma, Italy — VAT / P. IVA 03140920343. Edit S.r.l.s. is the data controller.

For anything on this page, including the requests described below, write to info@echoeseditions.it. Certified mail: edit@pec.echoeseditions.it.

What we collect

Your email address, your tick on the consent box, and the date and time you gave them. Stored alongside is the exact consent wording shown to you — our own text, kept so we can show what you agreed to.

The form is received and stored for us by Netlify, named below. Netlify records three further things automatically with every submission: the IP address the submission was sent from, the identifying string your browser sends about itself, and the address of the page it was sent from. We do not choose these and cannot switch them off. They are held with your record for as long as the record is held, and they go when it goes. Nothing else is stored with your record: no account, no profile, no purchase history. Separately from the form, this site loads one advertising tag, described under Cookies and the Meta pixel below.

Why we collect it

To tell you when an edition is shown, and to send the editorial communications that accompany it. That is the only purpose.

Legal basis

Your consent, under Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR. You give it by ticking the box on the subscription form, and we record the exact wording you agreed to alongside your address — which is what Article 7(1) asks us to be able to produce. Ticking the box is the whole of it: there is no second confirmation step.

Shortly after you subscribe you will receive one message — a short story, and nothing else. It is sent automatically, from our own mailbox, and it carries no tracking of any kind: no pixel, no counted opens, no counted clicks. After that you will hear from us when there is an edition to tell you about.

Who else sees it

The site is served by Netlify, Inc., which also receives the subscription form and stores the submissions for us. Netlify holds the data on our behalf as a data processor under Article 28 of the GDPR; it has no other use for it. There is no email platform and no third-party list, and no one else receives your address: we neither sell it nor share it. One other company is involved in the site itself — Meta, through the pixel described below. It is not given your address.

Netlify is based in the United States and stores the submissions there, so your address leaves the European Economic Area. The transfer is covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, which form part of our agreement with Netlify. You may request a copy of the safeguards covering the transfer by writing to info@echoeseditions.it.

If we later move the list to an email or customer platform, this page will name that provider before the move happens.

How long we keep it

Until you ask us to remove it, or after two years without any reply to what we send, whichever comes first. After that the address is deleted. Because nothing we send is tracked, silence is not read as disinterest: the two years are counted from the last message we sent you, not from anything measured about you.

The technical details recorded by Netlify with your submission are part of that record and are deleted with it.

Your rights

Under Articles 15 to 22 of the GDPR you may ask us to:

You can withdraw your consent at any time, with no consequence other than that we stop writing to you. Replying with the word stop to any message we send is enough, and every message says so: the reply reaches a person, who takes you off the list. Removing you is not automated and will not be. Write to info@echoeseditions.it to exercise any of these rights.

If you believe we have handled your data improperly, you may lodge a complaint with the Italian supervisory authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.

Cookies and the Meta pixel

This site loads the Meta pixel, a measurement tag belonging to Meta Platforms Ireland Limited (pixel ID 1741614643807480). It is the only tracker here, and it runs on every page of this site, including this one.

It reports two things: that a page was viewed, and — when the subscription form is sent — that a subscription happened. It is not given your email address; the event records that a form was submitted, not what was in it. What does reach Meta is your IP address, the identifying string your browser sends about itself, the page you are on and the page you arrived from. It also stores a cookie on your device, named _fbp, by which Meta can recognise the same browser again.

We use it to see how people find this site, and to reach people like them with advertising.

It loads with the page, and we do not ask you first. If you would rather it did not run, block it in your browser — most content blockers stop it — or use the ad preferences in your Meta account. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version appears on this page.
